The first meeting for preparation of the High Level Conference on International Cooperation in Transport was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The conference will be held in Ashgabat in September 2014.
The meeting was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant ministries of Turkmenistan, heads of the diplomatic missions accredited in Ashgabat, representatives of international organizations and experts.
As the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports, Turkmenistan supports the idea of laying the foundation of a new geo-economic space combining Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, Black Sea and Baltic regions, the Middle East and South and Southeast Asia. This aspect is a key component of Turkmenistan’s national development strategy in the field of transport. According to the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan, the main task in this direction is to integrate the transport system of Turkmenistan into the international communications network.
It is expected that one of the outcomes will be establishment of transport and logistics centers for multimodal transportation. In this regard, Turkmenistan together with a number of states and international institutions offered to discuss the possibility of creating a model highway for Central Asia.
